Fourth Sunday After Pentecost

Scripture: Mark 4:26–34, 1 Samuel 15:34–16:13 (NRSV)
Sermon: "God Sees" by Rev. Kristin Austew
Music: Organ led music leadership with Act II from EncoreKC!

Rev. Austew (she/her) returned to Kansas City in early 2022 to serve as a chaplain at St. Luke's Hospital on the Plaza. Before this, she spent three years as the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Bordentown, NJ, where she and her spouse, Matt, welcomed their daughter, Faye. Prior to her pastoral role in Bordentown, she served as a chaplain with Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care for five years. Kristin, who was ordained to chaplaincy at Central Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, is delighted to be back in Heartland Presbytery. In her free time, she enjoys chasing after her 4-year-old daughter, gardening, doing home improvements, reading, and exercising while socializing. Originally from Grace Presbytery in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, she notes that the BBQ there just doesn’t compare to Kansas City’s.

Act II, is a small ensemble of singers from EncoreKC!, a non-audition choir of approximately 70 singers over the age of 50 years old. EncoreKC! are artistic partners with GCPC. www.encorekc.org

Christian mindfulness meditation is a powerful spiritual practice which can help with day to day life. It has been shown to relieve stress and anxiety and to bring people who practice it to a more centered place in their lives, their faith and their relationships. James Finley's 12 Session Audio book "Christian Meditation: Entering the Mind of Christ" will be the focus of a five-week (10:45am, June, 2, 9, 16, 23, 30) adult study, led by Kevin Johnson, in learning to practice meditation.
