The Whole Person provides services to people with disabilities to ensure they are able live to independently in their communities. We’ll be traveling to the homes of some of their clients who need help with fall landscape maintenance. Bring your work gloves, and wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. We will need to haul away the bags of yard waste and dispose of them ourselves, either at home or by taking them to a recycling/composting center. Please think about whether you could help with taking away the bags when you sign up for this project. This project is limited to a maximum of 10 people.

With the help of Facilities team, we’ll do many tasks to tidy up and make improvements in and around our own building: washing windows, cleaning under pews, sweeping, dusting, clearing fallen sticks and other parking lot debris. Bring a pair of work gloves if you want to work outside!

Help tie and bind a quilt for homeless relief, or make tactile quilts for nursing home residents with dementia. No sewing experience or supplies are necessary; we’ll teach you what to do for either project. (If you have a sewing machine and want to bring it to make tactile quilts, that’s great! But you don’t have to bring a sewing machine to do either project.)

Sarah Stolberg from Project Starfish will teach us how to make mats from plastic grocery bags. Project Starfish distributes these mats to unhoused individuals to ensure they won’t have to sleep on the bare ground. No experience is necessary! Please start saving clean, dry plastic bags (like Walmart bags) for this project - you can bring them on Workship Sunday or drop them in the big box in front of the sanctuary any time after September 10. Hungry people are going to come back from Workship Sunday projects and need lunch! Join this project to help prepare and serve lunch, set up Heartland Hall, and clean up afterwards. Everybody on this team gets lunch for free! This project is limited to about 10 people.

We’ll do a stream clean up for the City of Olathe. This project requires some scrambling up and down steep creek banks and lifting, as well as shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting wet and muddy. Volunteers should be at least 8 years old, and volunteers under 18 will need to complete a waiver. You will need to complete the waiver for any minors you’re signing up and send a PDF or picture of it to michala.walker@gmail.com by October 1.
