UPLIFT Ministry

Uplift Ministry

UPLIFT is a Kansas City outreach ministry devoted to serving people experiencing homelessness by going directly to where they are. Through mobile street outreach, volunteers bring food, clothing, and essential supplies to parks, camps, under bridges, and other locations throughout the city.

Three nights each week — Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday — volunteers travel in vans loaded with meals and practical necessities, offering not only assistance, but also dignity, kindness, and compassionate presence. UPLIFT serves hundreds of people each week and has been carrying out this mission for decades through the support of volunteers and donations.

Grace Covenant is grateful to partner with this meaningful ministry. On the fourth Saturday of each month, our congregation provides casseroles for one of UPLIFT’s meal deliveries, helping feed approximately 60–90 people. We also collect and donate items that are especially helpful for those living outdoors, including:

  • Easy-peel fruit
  • Easy-to-open canned fruit
  • Canned meat
  • Ravioli and spaghetti
  • Clothing and camping gear
  • Other practical supplies

UPLIFT’s mission is simple yet deeply impactful: meeting immediate needs while reminding people they are seen, valued, and not forgotten. Through every donated meal, food item, or supply, our church helps extend Christ’s love beyond our walls and into the Kansas City community.

Thank you for supporting this ministry and helping provide hope, care, and compassion to our neighbors in need.

Message from Uplift Coordinator, Kevin Johnson:

UPLIFT is one of those ministries that puts compassion on wheels. It is a Kansas City organization devoted to serving people experiencing homelessness, not from a distance, but by going directly to them.

UPLIFT describes itself as a mobile street outreach. Three nights every week, volunteers take four vans loaded with food, clothing, and essential supplies to parks, camps, under bridges, and other places where unhoused neighbors are living. According to UPLIFT, they serve hundreds of people each week and have been doing this work for decades, powered entirely by volunteers and donations.

On Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday evenings, those trucks go out with a very simple but very Christ-like purpose: to bring food, practical help, dignity, and kindness to people who are often overlooked. UPLIFT says every life is valuable, and their ministry reflects that belief in a very concrete way.

Here at Grace Covenant, we play a small but meaningful part in that work.

On the fourth Saturday of each month, our church provides casseroles for one of those meal deliveries, helping feed about 60 to 90 people. We also contribute items that are especially useful for life on the street: easy-peel fruit, easy-open canned fruit, canned meat, ravioli, spaghetti, and other food that can actually be used without much preparation. And beyond food, we also donate things like clothing, camping gear, and other practical supplies that can make a real difference in someone’s daily life.

What I appreciate about this ministry is that it is both simple and deeply human. It is not complicated.

People are hungry, so food is brought.

People are cold, so clothing and gear are given.

People are struggling, so someone shows up and reminds them they have not been forgotten.

And That matters.

I think that is one of the beautiful things about UPLIFT. It is not only about meeting material needs, though it certainly does that. It is also about offering presence, care, and respect. It is about seeing the image of God in people who are too often unseen.

So when you donate a casserole ingredient, or canned food, or fruit, or clothing, or when you help support this effort in any way, you are participating in something deeply faithful. You are helping our church extend the love of Christ beyond these walls and into the streets of Kansas City.

Thank you for the many ways you already support this ministry. Your generosity truly becomes a meal, a kindness, and a reminder of hope for our neighbors.
