August 2 Worship

August 2, 2026
9:30am Worship

Communion Sunday

Scripture: Jeremiah 7:1–11, Psalm 150 (NRSVue)
Sermon: "Reports from the Field: Glorifying God" by Rev. Karen Wright
Music: We begin the month with Summer Choir singing You Are Not Alone by Molly Ijames. Originally commissioned to honor the many years of service given by former Director of Music Ministries Rebecca Prater, this meaningful anthem is sure to become a Sunday staple and congregational favorite.

The morning will also feature Esme Dixon singing Audrey Assad’s I Shall Not Want and Cal Sweeten sharing the distinctive and beautiful sound of the dulcimer. Together, these musical offerings will help frame a special “Music from the Field” conversation from members of the Music Team about what we do, how we serve the church, and the many ways music strengthens our worship and congregational life.

Watch our worship service here each Sunday.

Adult Christian Education

10:45am, Room 3

Join us right after worship in Room 3 for Adult Ed at 10:45am. Whether you come every week or have not made it down the hall lately, there is a place for you. We have a wonderful variety of classes this spring — thoughtful, practical, and engaging, with something new each week.

August 2“AI: Tool, Teacher, Tempter or Con?” led by Lee Mattix

This will not be a technical lecture. Instead, it will be a thoughtful and accessible conversation about artificial intelligence, drawing from the Pope’s recent writing on AI and several other sources. The Thursday Morning Women’s Bible Study recently explored this same material, and the discussion was very well received.

Artificial intelligence is already influencing how we work, communicate, learn, create, and make decisions. Is AI simply a useful tool? Can it become a teacher? When might it tempt or mislead us? And how can Christian values such as human dignity, truth, responsibility, justice, and love of neighbor guide our use of this rapidly developing technology?

No prior knowledge of AI is needed—only curiosity and a willingness to join the conversation
