Gracie Hellweg Payne is a Minister of Word and Sacrament currently serving on the pastoral staff at Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis after previously being called to serve the congregation as a pastoral resident. She received her Bachelor's degree from Indiana University in Communications & Culture and English (Creative Writing). Following graduation, she served Second Presbyterian Church of Carlisle, PA, as the Director of Youth Ministry and apprenticed with 1001 New Worshiping Communities which helped her recognize God's call to ordained ministry. She then obtained her Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. Worship, cultivating communities of belonging, and congregational renewal are central to Gracie's sense of call. Gracie is married to Christian Payne and they reside in Indianapolis with their dog, Xylo.
Gracie is a child of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was baptized, received her first communion, and was confirmed within our community. In this church she witnessed the joy, courage, and friendship that comes with following Jesus. GCPC was present at her ordination through prayers of blessing written on Epiphany Stars and delivered by Rev. Jay McKell and Rev. Sara Hayden. Confetti flung in the air that day and she felt, and continues to feel, surrounded and upheld by the faithfulness of this church.
